Reference page: Repertory of Cults and Myths

According to Greek mythology Rhea was the daughter of Gaia need Uranus, married Cronos by whom he had six children: Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, Zeus. She was therefore considered the parent of the entire lineage of the Olympic gods and for this reason she was given the nickname of Great Mother or Mother of the Gods. She was also called by the same name Cybelenon-Greek deity of Asia Minor. When the Asian cult became confused with the Greek one, Rea was identified with Cybele, and it is with this last name that she was known in the West and, therefore, also in Sicily.
