Ionian

Reference page: Repertory of Cults and Myths

The Nymph Ionia took care of some pigeons who took refuge in the cave of the doves every winter. Other nymphs, perhaps envious of Ionia's relationship with these birds, blocked the entrance to the cave, trapping and killing the doves. Desperate Ionia launched a very powerful cry that made the cave collapse, remaining buried together with her protégés.
