Archaeological site of Poggio Cofino

The site of Poggio Cofino, which extends close to the Oreto Grata municipal road and is located on the urban border of Licata, extends across a rocky limestone escarpment. There are eight rectangular pit tombs dug into the rocky bank, at least 1 meter deep, measuring approximately 2 meters x 80 cm; at the edges they have recesses for the closing slabs. three of these are semi-destroyed and one is buried. Furthermore, there are two rooms dug into the rock connected by steps also dug into the rock bank. In particular, a large room with a smaller one, which inside has a sort of semicircular basin with remnants of coating on the walls. On the slopes of the escarpment there are several cuts at right angles always in the rock. To the north-east of the site there are two very large caves, one of which with a quadrangular opening with recess for the closing slab and two rectangular rooms inside, the other located within private boundaries. - Hellenistic Greek Age - IV-III century. B.C
