Seaside Museum of Maritime Activities and Traditions and Emigration

The Seaside Museum of Maritime Activities and Traditions and Emigration, managed by the "Marettimo" Cultural Sports Recreational Tourist Association, showcases the history and culture of the island and its fishermen, narrating their sea voyages between XNUMXth and early XNUMXth centuries were carried out in the world following the impoverishment of the waters of Marettimo.

From North Africa to Portugal to America to fish for blue fish, and up to Alaska in search of salmon, the fishermen moved with their baggage of traditions, customs and traditions, putting down new roots far from Sicily but maintaining its identity, processing habits and techniques. This migratory movement was such that it led to the establishment of real island communities made up not only of fishermen, but also of the families who had subsequently joined them.
