The reference sector is that relating to the “Places of historical events of the nineteenth century - 1860 - Garibaldi story.

“After crossing the cliffs of the mountain, the attackers followed the road that led to the city and at two in the morning they reached Acqua dei Corsari, where they stopped and arranged themselves, by order of the General, in two rows on the side of the road. In the vanguard there were thirty Hunters of the Alps of the greater Tüköry flanked and followed by the guerrillas of the squads of La Masa. Shortly before dawn they reached Settecannoli, where the Sicilians, breaking the orders, began to shoot and thus made the attackers lose the advantage of the tactical surprise. This allowed the approximately 200 Bourbon soldiers stationed at the Ponte dell'Ammiraglio to start a barrage that caused havoc in the Sicilian squads that partially dispersed in the fields.[13] However, the Hunters of the Alps, and part of the Sicilians, returned the fire and their subsequent assault caused the escape of the Neapolitan soldiers, thus allowing the rest of the volunteers to cross the bridge; however, they continued to be targeted by other troops present on the Ponte della Guadagna. Many were wounded on the floor in front of the Porta Termini (Lajos Tüköry received the blow that was to lead to his death), so the General sent a company to take the Bourbons of Guadagna behind him and put an end to the fire, as indeed happened. Meanwhile, many of the Garibaldians had managed to enter the city, this also thanks to the fact that the 59 Bourbon soldiers of the 9th line who, stationed behind an embankment, had initially sustained the impact of the attack later, not seeing reinforcements arrive, they were withdrawn towards the guardhouse of the Royal Post Office, which was located near the church of San Cataldo.
