Description

Cave of the Hermit.

It is a cave of marine origin used as a citrus warehouse. Red earth emerges on the floor containing scarce remains of Pleistocene insular fauna (crocuta crocuta spelaea, a phalanx of Ursus arctor, now in the Geology Museum) recovered, a sign that the prehistoric deposit has been completely removed. Only a small anthropomorphic figure painted in black, of the nematomorphic type, probably datable to the Eneolithic period, like the similar figures in the Grotta del Genovese di Levanzo, the Grotta del Mirabella di S. Giuseppe Iato and of the Grotta di S. Rosalia in the homonymous mountain (V). .
