Ex Stand Florio or Taverna del Tiro

Via Messina Marine, no. 40.

Lo Florio stand is a building built by the Florio family to a design by Ernesto Basile in 1905 on the southern coast of Palermo, in via Messina Marine n. 40.

The building was only partially built since the original project included a large Kursaal on the sea, it was used for a long time for pigeon shooting and water sports competitions by the Palermo nobility. Later during the war it was used as a warehouse for the troops, at the end of which it was acquired by the nearby Buccheri La Ferla Hospital to make it a solarium. The original building had been largely tampered with because it had been abandoned for many years. Restoration works have been carried out since 1985 and today the building hosts cultural events.
