Description

Convent of the Dominican Fathers

The College / convent was designed by Ercole Fischietti from Catania, in the early years of the second post-war period, on the site where the seventeenth-century Church of San Nicolò stood, demolished to make room for the building being built and of which today only the lava portal remains, outside and the simple statue of the Saint, inside. On the central altar of the chapel is a large altarpiece, Madonna del Rosario with San Domenico and Santa Caterina da Siena, is the work of the famous Neapolitan painter Sebastiano Conca. The charm of this canvas is great and conquers.
Other notable works are kept inside: The Marriage of Santa Caterina da Siena with Jesus between San Domenico and the Virgin, San Vincenzo Ferreri.
To date the convent has been converted into a house-hotel and is called Casa San Tommaso D'Aquino.
The impressive and welcoming structure is suitable for conferences and cultural meetings. Its reopening was commissioned by the Confraternity of Sant'Egidio abate, with a lease contract with the Dominican Province.
