Church of the Holy Saviour

Probably existing since the fourteenth century, it was rebuilt in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, restructured in the eighteenth and damaged by the earthquake of 1968.

The interior has a single nave with barrel vault and five altars. The church is embellished with various works, including ten statues in stucco:

  • Two great angels in the presbyteryand eight allegorical statues on the walls (ReligionFedePatienceRenounce the worldSupervisionHappinessCharity e Hope) made in 1758 by Bartholomew Sanseverino, pupil of Serpotta.
  • A canvas on the high altar, depicting the Transfigurationby Carlo Brunetti (1759-60).
  • frescoeson the vault depicting St. Benedict between a host of saints and the sacrificial Lamb among angels, works of Charles Brunetti.
  • a marble statue of Saint Benedict of Norcia, made by Antonino Gagini(1545). The saint is represented in the act of blessing and is wearing a cope.
  • THEEcstasy of Santa Teresa, attributed to Peter Novelli, first altar on the right.
  • THEServing:of the Virgin, attributed to Pietro Novelli, first altar on the left.
  • THEAnnunciation, ovals made from Baldassare Massa.
