Description

Contrada Zuccarone

In Contrada Zuccarone a Roman miliarium was found, attributed to the consul Aulus Gellius and dated to 252 BC, in the midst of the First Punic War. Probably, this is the first Roman road on the island, fundamental for the control of the central-western area during the war years, and later, once Rome assumed full control of the whole of Sicily, which remained with a significant strategic role.
