Archive of the Beaches of Sicily and Malta

Completed the first phase of the project which sees the establishment of the first multimedia and geosocial archive of the beaches of Sicily and Malta. Over 500 cataloged and georeferenced beaches. The second phase has begun which now sees the selection of the beaches of greatest tourist interest and the inclusion of the main information of tourist interest including video comments, opinions and user experiences. The archive is part of the Naturalistic Archive of Sicily which currently sees about 1200 cataloged sites including all Natura 2000 sites, the Geosites, the Equipped Areas of Sicily and more, but which will see, by 2021, cataloged and geolocated all the naturalistic sites of Sicily.

The archive is also part of the wider Heritage Sicily project (which includes over 6.800 registered assets) and constitutes the first “Multi Thematic, Territorial, GeoSocial” archive of the Cultural Heritage of Sicily and Malta. The declared goal is to reach the census of 8.000 assets by 2021 and 10.000 by 2022.

The Heritage archive is not a simple list of assets that can be viewed on a map, but consists of a new generation database with cards containing images and often also videos and in-depth documents. Furthermore, the cards are interactive and social, users can interact by inserting votes, comments, reviews, experiences and personal messages to the authors. They can also share everything on the main social networks. Where relevant, the card incorporates Street View allowing a 360 ° view of the context in which the asset is located and of the path necessary to reach the individual assets.
We believe that the Heritage Archive is, until proven otherwise, the largest and most innovative online archive of Sicilian Cultural Heritage, accessible online for free for the community ever created.
The archive is created by Ignazio Caloggero as part of the Heritage project in which the AIPTOC Professional Association, the Helios Study Center and the Heritage Cultural Association also collaborate.
