The area extends into the interior of the province of Agrigento at altitudes between c. 330 and 640 m asl. From the geological point of view, flint limestones and
dolomitic, and blue clays of the Tortonian; the bioclimate ranges from the lower Termomediterraneo-Subhumid to the Lower Mesomediterranean-subhumid.
4.2Quality and importance
The vascular flora, represented by about 700 species, includes numerous taxa included in the red list. From the vegetational point of view, open thickets are found
to Quercus virgiliana, aspects of maquis, ampelodesmeti, rock communities and debris, as well as limited hygrophilous meadows and reeds (Acqua Fitusa spring). Wide
agricultural crops also have an impact.
