Description:
The biotope consists of the bed of the Vaccarizzo stream, which in the affected section is encased between rocky outcrops of the Gessoso-Solfifera series of the
Messinian. The average annual temperature of the site is 16,3 degrees Celsius. Average annual rainfall 582 mm distributed over 59 rainy days. Climate
dry thermo-Mediterranean.
The biotope, in good condition even if in some places degraded due to the supply of solid waste, is of scientific importance as it hosts an endemism
which Limonium optimae Raimondo, first described in 1993. The relevance of this taxon lies in its point distribution and in the fact that the
most of the entities belonging to the genus Limonium are linked to coastal environments where they participate in halo-rupicolous communities, while few species are
known for the interior of Sicily.
