Giuseppe lerna was born in Floridia on 10 May 1905 to Marianna Ferla and Raffaele Ierna. From childhood he revealed a particular aptitude for music, inheriting from his family the respect and love for all forms of art, the cult of books and theater in prose and music.
Following the great dream of becoming a composer, he privately studied piano and composition and as the results were promising, he managed to persuade his father to accept that in 1928 he moved to Rome to continue and complete his composition studies.
On the eve of his departure, however, his father suffered a cerebral stroke; this event represented a very serious emotional trauma for Giuseppe Ierna who put his love for his father before his future career, for this reason his studies suffered a sudden stop. Nevertheless, in the rare moments of less tension, he resumed studying under the guidance of the composer Maestro Giuseppe Di Giacomo who followed him at the beginning of his path as a composer, introduced him as his student to some well-known musical houses of the time, such as the publishing house. Musical “S. Pucci ”in Salerno and the“ Audace ”Publishing Studio in Milan who published many of his early works.
From this moment on he was to the attention of the most famous music houses of the time, among which in addition to the aforementioned also the House Ed.Diaphone, which published many of his compositions that became famous, were broadcast by the radio of the time and performed abroad including Latin America, where his tangos were especially appreciated.
A member of the SIAE, some newspapers of the 30s show how widely Giuseppe Ierna's pop music repertoire was widespread, enjoying well-deserved recognition.
He continued to compose until his later age which never diminished his artistic vein, the pleasure of playing and reading. He died in Floridia on October 20, 1991.
