Equipped area of the State of S. Maria del Bosco
Starting from Randazzo take the SS n. 116 (Randazzo Santa Domenica Vittoria). After crossing the bridge over the Alcantara river, after about 700 meters, take the road on the left that will lead us to the entrance to the Monte Boiardo state property. You pass the forest gate and after about two kilometers of dirt road you will arrive at the equipped area. Entry from the gate with cars is subject to authorization by the Forestry Inspectorate of Catania, otherwise it is possible and free for everyone to enter on foot, leaving the car outside the gate. The predominant forest tree species is the downy oak which forms dense and intrigued groves, but the more attentive observer will not be able to miss the presence of maples, pines, poplars, etc., which make up a variegated forest landscape. Few wooden tables and benches, two cooking points, water that flows from unique fountains and the toilets are the accommodation facilities present in this area, to tell the truth, in the completion phase, but equally very busy. In fact, in the summer there are numerous groups of scouts who choose this location as a base point and in the spring school groups from all over the island on a school trip. The presence of many people in the woods attests to a judgment of appreciation of these structures by all and this with a good return of image for the whole Forestry Corps of the Sicilian Region.

The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the website of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (continuously updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia.
