Cathedral of Ragusa: 13 Chapel of San Gregorio Magno

Polychrome marble altar dedicated to Pope Gregory the Great, founder of the Gregorian Masses (uninterrupted celebrations of thirty Holy Masses in suffrage of a soul in Purgatory). The picture in the center, painted by Paolo Vetri in 1886, depicts the Saint. At the Laterals, two paintings, attributed to the painter Gaetano Distefano, made on copper in the mid-XNUMXth century, portray the souls in Purgatory, in the act of praying. In the rectangular marble relief, San Gregorio kneeling in front of the Madonna and Child, who intercedes for the souls in Purgatory.
