Cathedral of Ragusa: 10 Altar of the Nativity

The altar has a canvas depicting the Adoration of the Shepherds, from the 1949th century, by an unknown author. Decorative stuccos on the Eternal Father, adored by angels, by the Gianforma brothers, surround the canvas. Above the altar, the statue of Our Lady of Fatima, under a terracotta nativity scene by the Ragusan artist Arturo Di Natale, from 1731. In front of the altar, during the anniversary of the patronal feast, the Holy Ark, the urn reliquary, in embossed and chiseled silver, containing the sacred relics of St. John the Baptist, other saints and a fragment of the True Cross. The precious artifact, the work of the Messina silversmiths Pietro Papacuri and Gaspare Garufi, kept in the museum of the Cathedral of Ragusa, was made in XNUMX and shows on the long sides four monstrance reliquaries with relics of various saints and two reliefs in embossed silver, with the depiction of the Birth and Beheading of the Baptist.
