The archaeological parks in Sicily

With the regional law 20/2000 the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples was established, subsequently, con DA of 11 July 2001, n. 6263 of the Councilor for cultural heritage and environmental and public education sectors have been identified the archaeological areas making up the system of archaeological parks of the region.
With subsequent decrees (2013, 2014, 2017, 2018), amendments and additions were made to DA 11 July 2001, n. 6263 with the addition of the following parks respectively: “Parco archaeological site of the Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina ”,“ Park Archaeological and landscape of the Valle dell'Aci ”,“ Archaeological Park of Tindari ”, Archaeological Park of Segesta and the Archaeological Park of Pantelleria.

In April 2019 the implementing decrees of the last eight structures were signed: Gela; Catania and Valle dell'Aci; Aeolian Islands; Tindari; Himera, Solunto and Monte Iato; Kamarina and Cava D'Ispica; Syracuse, Eloro and Villa del Tellaro; Lilibeo. The provision also provided for the unification of 'Morgantina and Villa Romana del Casale' and of 'Selinunte, Cave di Cusa and Pantelleria' ".
The system of archaeological parks, descending from the various integrations, is therefore made up of the following archaeological parks:

  • Archaeological and landscape park of the Valley of the Temples
  • Archaeological Park of Gela
  • Archaeological Park of Catania and Valle dell'Aci which brings together the 2 previous parks:
  • Archaeological Park of Morgantina and Villa del Casale that brings together
      • Archaeological Park of Morgantina
      • Archaeological park of the Villa Romana del Casale
  • Archaeological Park of the Aeolian Islands
  • Archaeological Park of Tindari
  • Archaeological Park of Himera, Solunto and Monte Iato which brings together the previous parks:
      • Himera Archaeological Park
      • Monte Iato Archaeological Park
      • Solunto Archaeological Park
  • Archaeological Park of Kamarina and Cava D'Ispica  che brings together:
      • Kamarina Archaeological Park
      • Archaeological Park of Cava D'Ispica
