Tower and Fortified Masseria Landolina
Included in the list of listed architectural heritage (DDS 8519 of 28/10/2004)
Tower with a square plan, 6,55 m per side, and 13,45 m high. With a modest wall structure, it was entirely covered with plaster and the corners were strengthened with freshly made limestone ashlars.
squared. It has three floors and balconies and windows on the four elevations. The entrance door on the north side has an arched crown and typical nineteenth-century decorations. Above on the same line a balcony. Jambs and architraves are defined by a squaring of the ashlars. The window on the 3rd floor has a projecting sill. A blocked window at the top seems to be due to a constructive repentance. On the south side the same rhythm: in place of the lower door, a rectangular window and above on the same vertical, a balcony and window.
Two slit windows near the corners. The other two sides are more sober. The attic floor is crowned by running battlements. Three gargoyles provide for the disposal of water
rain. The tower dominates the countryside, the port and the city, and the connection with the others in Milocca and Cuba is evident. Nearby remains of a Roman building.
Historical information relating to the property
The tower pre-existed the earthquake of 1693 which destroyed it. Its reconstruction was resumed at the beginning of the eighteenth century. Remains of a Roman building were found nearby
