The tuna fishery

It entered into operation in 1412, in 1872 it was purchased by the Knight Vito Foderà, already owner of the Magazzinazzi plant, expanding the structure with warehouses and spaces for processing tuna, but also rooms for residence. The lowering of the nets very close to the coast, in fact allowed the owners to observe from their terraces the work of the crews during the slaughter. After a period of crisis, the tuna fishery was purchased by the Plajas in 1929, forced to close down in 1965. The complex is very large and has various structures which motivated its purchase by Valtur. Following the bankruptcy of the tourist company, the buildings are currently in a state of abandonment. Tanks containing the remains of tuna and various fish dating back to the XNUMXth century BC were discovered near the structure, confirming a millenary tradition of fish processing in the area.
