Tower of the Ficarella

Visible from via Orfani. it is located on the external north side of the apse of the church of San Domenico.

The tower known as “della Ficarella” was built in the XNUMXth century. The members of the secret Congregation of the SS. Crucifix (later Venerable Congregation of the Most Holy Crucifix under the title of Mortification). The octagonal tower next to the second cloister has the shape of a column, with a false base where the eight sides seem to rest, reinforced at the corners by thick cornices together with other horizontal ones that have the function of marking the ideal planes. You enter through a portal now very ruined but which suggests traces of sculptural nobility and finally you come to admire a unique work, the result of the genius of an unknown architect and excellent
