Together with the Torre di Magnisi, it was a watchtower until the first half of the 800th century. It was part of a system of 218 Sicilian coastal towers scattered around the coasts of Sicily used for sighting pirate ships or for capturing slaves. The Torre del Fico dates back to the Spanish period.
