Tondo Vecchio - Caltagirone

Via Roma (the ancient Via Carolina) passed street number 59. It was built in the second half of the eighteenth century on a project by the architect Francesco Battaglia in the shape of an Esedra, as a decorative element of the new road layout, designed to connect the city to the plateau of Santa Maria di Gesù. The new road was decreed in 1776 by Ferdinando III and dedicated to Queen Carolina. The old Tondo underwent modifications by the architect GB Nicastro towards the end of the XIC century. Via Roma (the ancient Via Carolina) in front of another Baroque monument, the Teatrino.
