Massimo Vincenzo Bellini Theater
Bellini Square. Inaugurated on May 31, 1890, with the opera Norma by the Catania composer Vincenzo Bellini. The initial project of the theater is by the architect Andrea Scala, later his collaborator Carlo Sada made changes, who succeeded him in the direction of the works.
The hall has four tiers of boxes beyond the gallery. The ceiling is frescoed by the painter Ernesto Bellandi with images of Bellini and his major works: Norma, La sonnambula, I puritani and Il pirata. The historical curtain, illustrating the Victory of the Catania people over the Libyans, is by the Catania painter Giuseppe Sciuti.
