Description

Garibaldi Theatre

The theater dates back to the early XNUMXth century. and is therefore among the oldest Sicilian public theaters.
It has been rebuilt and enriched several times. The ceiling was painted by the painter Giuseppe Paladino in the early 900s on the occasion of the construction of the entrance, the foyer and the current façade. The previous one, in fact, enriched by a portico, had been demolished by the collapse of the fourteenth-century wall of the city against which the theater is leaning. The façade presents the bas-relief faces of Alfieri, Bellini, Goldoni and V erdi duestatue representing dramatic art and musical art. The Ragusa stone sculptures are the work of Pasquale Massa.
The current façade dates back to 1905, the result of a project by G.Pasterelli with an elegant sandstone facade.
