Description

Municipal Theatre

Located in the central Piazza del Popolo, it was designed in 1863 and was named after the founder of the city. It houses about 300 armchairs. Of neoclassical style, it has two rows of columns on the facade, one at the entrance and the other on the upper loggia. The Victorian painter Giuseppe Mazzone oversaw the interior decoration (vault, vestibule ceiling) with frescoes depicting great composers. Recently reopened after a long closure for restoration work, it was declared, in 2005, "Monument Bearer of a Culture of Peace" by UNESCO
