Tal-Virtu Church, Rabat

Photo: Wikipedia

The church was built on an area where remains from Phoenician and Roman times have been discovered. On the site, under the church there was an early Christian catacomb which was later transformed into a medieval church adorned with a Gothic door. The crypt still exists today, under the church. The current structure was built between 1717 and 1723. Severely damaged by an earthquake in 1923, it was restored in 1989.
