Description

Bathhouse

Mondello. Viale Regina Elena.

Built on the sea, based on a project by Rudolph Staulker, director of the technical office of the Italian-Belgian company, the bathhouse has an oval hemicycle colonnade with monumental access from the road. A short "pier walk" leads to the central body, on reinforced concrete and masonry pillars, intended for social activities and social events, with the cabins on the sides
placed in a row, also on platforms. The whole complex seems to refer, in more contained forms, to the Casino of Scheveningen (Holland 1820) and to the Palais de la Jetée - promenade of Nice (1875-1891), both created for the recreational use of the sea. The decoration of the Mondello factory features marine subjects such as large dolphins placed on the pylons of the hemicycle.
The entire building recalls the ephemeral architectures created on the occasion of international exhibitions, designed to attract the visitor in a "playful way".
