La Montagna archaeological site - Contrade Caltafaraci-Petrusa
Remains of a Bronze Age settlement with huts carved into the rock and necropolis with artificial caves. Archaeological excavations have brought to light the remains of a Greek center attributable to the fourth century. BC which was certainly in close contact with the city of Agrigento. The center had a military function and was divided into acropolis, sanctuaries and houses arranged on sloping terraces according to the typical scheme of Hellenistic cities. The remains of a mighty "aggere" wall from the first half of the 1089th century are preserved. BC placed to defend the acropolis and equipped with a system of towers arranged in a semicircle to protect the access gate to the city; other walls are visible at lower altitudes and served as terraces and protection for the houses, often connected to each other by a system of steps. Property included in the list of archaeological assets bound under the law 1939/392 DA n. 30 of 01/1985/XNUMX
