Archaeological site in C.da Canalicchio / C. Locascio
In a flat area at the foot of Pizzo Canalicchio between the municipalities of Lucca Sicula and Calamonaci, there is a settlement occupied in the period between the Late Antiquity and the Byzantine era. It is a village of which three building units have been intercepted, and which, from a first analysis of the archaeological material collected, seems to have been occupied until the beginning of the XNUMXth century, when it would have been slowly abandoned. It is most likely a rural settlement, a center of aggregation for the population who took care of the surrounding countryside. Place of storage of commodities intended for marketing as well as processing activities of agricultural products for self-consumption.
