Archaeological Site Mouth of the Carboj
The site is located on a flat area on the left bank of the mouth of the Carboj River, affected by highly concentrated fragments. It is an almost rectangular band, which develops parallel to the river course from which it is bounded to the West, while towards the South West it is enclosed by the coast line. On the ground on the surface, fragments of pottery from the Hellenistic and Roman periods are found; in particular Greek pottery with black paint, pottery from the Hellenistic-Roman age for common use and for fire, Italic terra sigata, African terra sigata from production D, roof tiles and transport amphorae from the Roman period. The density of the fragments increases as you proceed towards the river bank. Considering the position of the site, it could be assumed that it was the site of a residential settlement perhaps connected with a
river landing.
