Description

Archaeological site Ex Molino-C.da Cignana-Altipiano Petrasi

The site includes two sectors: C.da Cignana and Altipiano petrasi. The c.da Cignana covers a large area characterized by a series of terraced rocky crags sloping down into a river valley. In the area it is worth noting the presence of numerous hypogean structures from the early Christian era. These are catacombs made up of a short entrance and a single corridor on whose walls there are deep niches with box tombs and some arcosolium on the walls. To the east of c.da Cignana are the heights of the Petrasi plateau which extend from south-west to north-east.

Compared to the perimeter area in the Guidelines, the ridge has been widened towards the Petrasi plateau in which cave tombs and hypogean environments from the early Christian era are visible. Archaeological literature (Wilson RJA 1990) reports the presence of a Roman villa with mosaic-paved rooms.
