Archaeological site of Monte Adranone
The excavations started in 1968 have brought to light a Greek city founded by Selinunte settlers in the second half of the century. VI BC on the remains of a protohistoric indigenous village. From the entrance to the archaeological area you reach the necropolis, made up of tombs with hypogeic chambers, among which we point out the “tomb of the Queen” and numerous chest tombs with walls built in stone blocks. The Greek city stood on a triangular terrace, defended to the North-East by a steep rocky ridge and for the remainder by an imposing city wall built in the VI-V century. BC and
strengthened in the fourth century. BC In the terrace there are the remains of a series of private homes and public services while on the acropolis there was the sacred area where a Punic temple stood, with a rectangular plan with three non-communicating contingent rooms. Immediately below the acropolis is located
a monumental complex with a stupendous Punic sanctuary.
