Description

Archaeological site of Castellazzo di Palma

The site concerns the top of a hill where a presence from prehistoric and Greek times is attested. It is worth noting the presence of artificial cave tombs from the Castelluccian period on the slopes of the hill and on the high ground remains of a residential settlement with huts and cult buildings
dating back to the late Bronze Age including a hut-sanctuary with a votive deposit of clay spools and pebbles. Remains of oval huts, on the other hand, can be ascribed to the Eneolithic period. The attendance of the Greek era is testified by the remains of a sanctuary datable between the seventh and fourth centuries. BC which returned
a rich votive stipe and the remains of a wall dating back to the sixth century. BC The site was probably occupied by the Greeks during the XNUMXth century. BC during the march towards Agrigento before its foundation.
