Mezzocanale greenhouse
Area of fragments, frequentation, presence.
The Serra Mezzocanale site involves the eastern and northern slopes of a ridge that develops mainly outside the provincial border of Agrigento. The surveys carried out have highlighted a frequenting of the area which dates back to the Greek era (relatively to the northern slope in particular) and which, after a period of abandonment, seems to have been revived in the Middle Ages. Fragments relating to combed and Greek tiles, vacuolated body tiles and with straw impressions, medieval glazed and glazed pottery, fine and kitchen pottery, pithoi and ffr were found on the ground with a medium concentration density. of amphorae. The numerous discoveries lead us to believe that it could have been a settlement with the function of controlling the hinterland of the Sicani Mountains.
