Description

Sanctuary Maria S of Capo d'Orlando and the miracle of the pilgrim of the buccina

In October 1598, on the Capo castle, two guardians, the Raffa brothers heard some noises and looking out saw a pilgrim who without speaking, took a bùccina, used to give the alarm to the inhabitants of the village during the numerous pirate raids and he began to play it. The guardians called him back but he continued undaunted, they approached the pilgrim who, fleeing, left on the ground a bag containing a box, containing a small simulacrum depicting the Madonna who had the baby Jesus in her arms, and was of a dazzling beauty, and resembled the Miraculous Madonna of Trapani. The guardians believed they recognized San Cono Navacita in the pilgrim. Upon hearing of the incident, the prefect of Capo dOrlando, Antonino Piccolo, went to visit the Madonna and begged her to save his children suffering from smallpox, who were healed, performing the first of the many miracles that the Madonna is said to have performed . Subsequently to the facts, on the same place that is said to be indicated by San Cono in one of his apparitions, the Sanctuary was built in 1600 which houses the Madonna previously preserved in Naso
