Contrada Mango Sanctuary
Place belonging to the multi-serial site: Segesta
Sanctuary of Contrada Mango, from the VI-V century. BC The initial excavations were carried out in an area of considerable size (about 83 × 48 m). Traces of a large enclosure made up of imposing travertine blocks, enclosing two "solemn" buildings, certainly destined for worship, dating back to the XNUMXth-XNUMXth century, were already found. BC Among the finds of considerable archaeological importance there is the discovery of a stone slab that has an incised portal tapered upwards, with an "Egyptian throat" architrave: a clear reference of oriental decoration which confirms the Tucidid position about the origins from the Middle Eastern regions of the Elimi.
