Description

Sanctuary of the Annunziata

The original chapel was built with a single nave, in the thirteenth century, in the fourteenth century it was enlarged, traces of that period remain in the facade where a radial rose window dominates the main portal in Gothic style, also in the fourteenth century the adjoining convent of the Carmelite Fathers. In the eighteenth on a project by the architect Giovanni Biagio Amico, the church was transformed assuming its current forms. The interior and the bell tower are in fact affected by the Baroque influence of which the Trapanese Biagio Amico was one of the main Sicilian interpreters.

Among the works preserved inside:

  • Chapel of the Madonna (behind the main altar), it is accessed through a beautiful Renaissance arch, with sculptures by Antonello. by Antonio and Giacomo Gagini from the XNUMXth century. The Chapel contains the XNUMXth century statue of the Madonna of Trapani, attributed to Nino Pisano
