Sanctuary of the Madonna on Monte San Giuliano in Custonaci

The sanctuary of Custonaci has been for centuries the destination of pilgrims who came to pay homage to the Madonna who arrived from the sea, according to tradition, on a Venetian or French ship from Alexandria in Egypt and escaped a shipwreck and landed in Cala Buguto. The Sailors praying to the Madonna depicted in a picture they were carrying promised by vote that, if she had brought them to safety, they would have deposited it on the mainland with the obligation to erect a chapel dedicated to her.
