Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes

DATING: 1939
DESCRIPTION: Founded in 1884 by frà Bernardo da Messina it was totally destroyed during the 1908 earthquake. The statue of the Madonna was saved from the destruction and was relocated in a niche in the apse of the main altar of the new church, rebuilt and inaugurated in 1939.
The convent has taken on various functions over the years and is currently the seat of the philosophy and theology studentate of the Friars Minor of Sicily.
The Marian sanctuary is dedicated to Christ and Our Lady of Lourdes.
The liturgical hall has been renovated and enriched with colorful and precious marbles by the architect. Gorgon (sdb).
Internally the effigy of Our Lady of the Angels by Polidoro and the statue of the Blessed Virgin of Lourdes are venerated, in 1969 an exact copy of the Lourdes grotto was built next to the sanctuary
