Description:

The site is characterized by an imposing limestone rocky outcrop of Mesozoic origin which rises up to a height of 1340 m on a siliceous base. It is a purely rocky area currently rather degraded and subject to intense erosive factors. The bioclimate of the highest part falls within suprameditteraneo superior subhumid, while at lower altitudes it falls within the subhumid mesomediterranean. The vegetation is rather degraded due to intense grazing and cultural activities that have triggered significant erosive processes. Among the natural aspects, formations can currently be observed chasmophilous, mesophilic and steppe pastures, as well as limited and isolated fragments of orophilic grasslands.

Mountain area characterized by cliffs and pastures with numerous rare and / or endemic species. It hosts a nesting bird that includes species that are in Sicily rare and of high scientific value such as the golden eagle and the Sicilian rock partridge. The invertebrate fauna also presents rare species or at the southern limit of theirs distribution range, many taxa are also endemic to Sicily and sometimes to north-eastern Sicily alone.
