Embroidery and runway

The Sicilian parade dates back to the end of the 14th century but established itself in Sicily in the 500s, enjoying great success with the Lords in Italy and in the churches where it was used for sacred ornaments. Over the years, the Parade becomes part of the most precious kit, embellishing the garments and linen of the Sicilian girls that were later handed down from generation to generation. It is performed on very fine fabrics such as pure linen with a regular weave and very fine threads. It is possible to work by hand or on the loom. The parading technique consists in removing three or four threads of the canvas, both from the warp and from the weft and to cover the remaining threads with a cord so as to form a grid that frames a design. The different stages of processing are carried out according to the skills that women have for which the work will first pass under the hands of the designer then the stripper, the embroiderer and finally the ironer.
