Description

De Leva portal

In Via Leva at n ° 14. The Portale De Leva, an elegant example of the Gothic - Chiaramonte style prevailing in Sicily in the fourteenth century. It is the most beautiful portal in Modica, with carved arches with three orders, zigzags, acanthus leaves and fine arabesque embroidery, and perhaps it was the entrance door to the small church dedicated to Saints Philip and James, which later became the private chapel of the noble De Leva family
