Gate II (XNUMXth century BC Akrakas Gates)
The gate is one of the 9 gates belonging to the Akrakas defensive structure from the 9th century. BC The Porta II or Porta di Gela is located within a natural cut of the rocky ridge and was crossed by a road of which the signs of the parallel carriageways are preserved. The walls of the rocky ridge, about 10-XNUMX meters high, in the top part have small plastered niches for the insertion of votive tablets, while in the lower floor there are some small pits, remains of hearths and a small quadrangular enclosure, all traceable elements to cults of consecration of the fortifications
