Riggieri bridge

Riggieri bridge

About 300 m from the Alesa Arconidea hill an ancient bridge crosses the Tusa stream and was perhaps at the service of the consular road to Herbita and Enna. This path, known as the wheat route, crossed the whole territory of Pettineo and Castel di Lucio, touched the hill of Migaido with another crossing of the river, until it reached the heart of Sicily, or the granary of Italy. Agricultural and pastoral products were transported along this road to be loaded into the Alesa loader and exported to Rome. The current remains are of uncertain dating, probably from the Roman era but the name could refer to an intervention of the Norman era as a deformation of the name of Count Roger. (Source Wikipedia)
