Poggiodian

Poggiodian

Inside the Poggiodiano company, the presence of a prehistoric necropolis with caves visible from the SS Siracusana n.124 has been identified. An area identifiable from the SP 194 for Niscemi and classifiable as a Roman rural settlement also falls within the Poggiodiano district. The area is located on a slope of modest height, located at the confluence of the rivers Signore and Maroglio, on the border with the territory of Niscemi. The material evidence was collected in particular in the land owned by Mr. Di Marco, located east of the SP 194 for Niscemi.

Attendance, an indication of permanent residence at the Roman site, is attested by the discovery on the surface of ceramics in a fragmentary state of the Sigillata Italica, Africana type, together with vitreous fragments.
