Site type: SAC - Special Conservation Area
Code: ITA030018 - Hectares: 2817
Description:
The area in question is affected by some reliefs and valleys with altitudes between 250 and 950 m. From a geological point of view, the substrates are mainly represented by flysch, schists and gneisses. The bioclimate is part of the lower subhumid mesomediterranean. Forest vegetation is mainly represented by cork and deciduous oak woods with Quercus gussonei. Frequent are the secondary formations made up of cisteti, while in the stretches with rocky outcrops there are aspects of thermophilic scrub. In the most degraded areas there are thermo-xerophilous ephemeral lawns and perennial steppe grasslands. Along the torrential watercourses, woody and herbaceous hygrophilous aspects can be observed.
Site of considerable geobotanical interest characterized by woods of Quercus suber and Q. cerris. There are also lake and marsh areas that host a rich and diversified herpetofauna, which includes species of considerable conservation interest. The arthropodofauna is also very rich and articulated, both nemoral and marshy, but also dulcaquicola, which includes numerous endemic species, sometimes very rare and localized, whose presence is often limited only to the Nebrodi area.
