Description

Giovanni De Vita Art Gallery

It consists of works donated by the De Vita family, at the explicit will of the Maestro, to the Chiaramonte community. Works as a whole delicate for the shades, pervaded by warm and caressing colors, on pleasantly shaded backgrounds, sometimes impressionistic, but always soft and enveloping.

The collection is distributed in some rooms of the ancient Montesano palace, of which that pictorial symposium somehow enhances the aristocratic architectural profiles.

Tempera and watercolor techniques prevail, in which the Master has lavished a significant part of his art. But also the oil on canvas technique characterizes a valuable side of the Chiaramonte collection. In oil on canvas are the works "Idyllic", "A cluster of illusions", "The Lighthouse". The works “Armonie di forme”, “Fervore di studio”, “Nido”, “Portrait of the sister”, “Golgotha” are still created with the oil technique, all in one room.

Tempera dominates the works “Composition”, “Sereno”, “Gala evening”, “And it's immediately evening”, “Farewell”, “Morning greeting”, “Musical scales”. While in watercolor are the productions "Simboli", "Iblean landscape", "Country intimacy", "A caress to the old walls" in the same rooms. A subsequent space is occupied by watercolors and tempera: "Grappling with truth" and "The inquisitor" in watercolor on paper, "The avenue" and "Limpida gioia" in tempera.

The works on display are a sign of a production with a tenuous, delicate, but clear identity, almost territorial, recurrent in so much painting that it reveals unequivocal Iblean “debts”, and which Maestro De Vita interprets with inimitable fullness.
