Description

Former fish market square

Photo: Ignazio Caloggero

It was originally located outside the walls. Passing the Porta Felice, you came out on this natural widening of the beach. La Porta was also called “della Bocceria” (from the French boucherie) because it was facing a small building where cattle were slaughtered. The current arrangement with a portico with round arches dates back to 1874 and is the work of Giovan Battista Talotti. In the center of the square there is a small fountain with the Venus Anadiomene.
