Description
Laura Mollica's professional activity, after her first beginnings as "enfant prodige“, Begins at the age of fourteen, thanks to the meeting with the great names of the Sicilian artistic and cultural scene: the poet Ignazio Buttitta, the singer Rosa Balistreri, the storyteller Ciccio Busacca, who he supports in numerous recitals.
Today Laura Mollica is considered by national and international critics to be the spiritual heir of the great Rosa Balistreri and since 1980 she has been carrying out an intense concert activity, promoting Sicilian popular music all over the world.
With a strong stage presence, Laura Mollica's voice manages to evoke the atmosphere of “traditional singing” without any difficulty and, at the same time, to re-propose in a modern key the sonic inflections typical of tradition.
Both accompanied by the orchestra and with the guitar alone, Laura Mollica manages to express all the "Sicilianity" of singing, freely interpreting the historical repertoire that Alberto Favara had collected between the end of the 800th century and the beginning of the 900th century in Sicily, at search for melodies and songs that expressed the most authentic conception of the world and of the life of the people of Sicily, and that the famous Rosa Balistreri, Sicilian storyteller, had spread since the 70s in the Italian and European music scene.
Laura Mollica's singing stands as a moment of technical and expressive research that never shuns the most arduous melisms, as an ornamental flowering of melody, but also knows how to rarefy to become pure sound. In the passionate dialogue with her guitar Laura Mollica becomes a sweet, biting and sensual interpreter of the great music of the Mediterranean, through its rhythms, cadences, modals.
